Android Game Review: The Walking Dead Season #1

I've always been a big fan of the Walking Dead comics and also liked the tv show well...

I was one of the first buyers, whenThe Walking Dead Season #1 from Telltale Games arrived on Android (had been pretty jealous about the earlier iOS release). I played the game on the Asus Transformer TF101 - and was pretty stunned.

Okeh, okeh... I had also played the Walking Dead Season #1 on a pretty high end PC. But in a fair comparison you should forgot about the better graphic and performance. I was playing the Android version of The Walking Dead Season #1 on a Tegra dualcore at 1.4ghz. For that I found the graphics a good choice. Sometimes the game tended to brake down to 5 FPS or else - but hey... I'm a thankful gamer. I really enjoyed the whole game anyway.

Story rip-off
You start as a man called Lee and for some reasons you are on the backseats of a police car. But what a lucky bastard you are! You don't have to face the morals of law anymore soon anyway. While chatting with the grumpy officer, you get straight what you deserve: Awaking in one of these well know zombie hells 5000.

No time to realize what's going on. From now you are confronted with deadly decicions which (barely) take impact of your journey. Fortunatly you meet Clementine and can pet her away from the daring depths of hell (also good to have someone on your side in such a place full of dark death and lonelyness). Unfortunatly it's a hard job to protect her.

What's the game about?
The game reminded me to "Fahrenheit" and "Heavy Rain" for some reasons. Guess it's because of the action sequences. Most of the game is to split in three parts: Storyline (cinematics), conversations (which have inpact of your companions or enemys. You have to make your choices of what to answer in a timelimit) and action sequences (in which you have to rapidly and repeatedly touch the screen, or swipe in certain directions to avoid zombies or other uncool stuff). Look like this:

Upshot

This was one of the first Telltale Games I got in contact with. I really liked the graphics and was thankful to be able to play it on my slow tablet. The gameplay was good, the story was good, the sound was good... what else to say? I never considered it a waste of money afterwards - even though you have to pay your way through the games of Telltale often (Season pass eg.).

I played also The Walking Dead Season #2, The Wolf Among Us, Tales From The Borderlands and Game of Thrones. They are all great. But care: It started with The Walking Dead Season #2 that my poor Asus Transformer TF101 (1,4ghz dualcore Tegra with 1gb of RAM) wasn't able to take it anymore. Season #2 crashed more as it was playable. FPS break downs to below 1. Just unplayable. Anyway on faster devices the Telltale games are awesome. You should really think about getting them. Have a look at the Google Play Store.
